Rani Mukherjee challenging the cancellation of her ownership of land in Mah
Bollywood actor Rani Mukherji moved a petition in the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court Thursday, challenging the cancellation of her ownership of a piece of land in Maharashtra.Rani’s father Ram Mukherjee arrived in Aurangabad and furnished the necessary documents pertaining to the land deal before the registrar of the court. The petition challenging the Shrirampur sub-divisional officer’s (SDO) order directing her to surrender the land in Ningaonkovali village, on the border of Nasik and Ahmednagar districts, will come up for notice before the court Friday.Nandkumar Suryavanshi, the SDO, said that earlier there was a sugar factory on the land that was subsequently closed. Since the factory had excess land, the government took it over in accordance with the Urban Land Ceiling Act (ULCA) and handed it over to the Maharashtra State Farming Corporation (MSFC).As the land remained unused for a long time, the MSFC sold it to the original owner, a farmer who worked in ... RANI MUKHERJEE TURNS 30!
On March 21, Rani Mukherjee has turned 30! She is undisputed and also the 'literal' Queen of Bollywood. There was a time when her husky voice was considered as 'non-saleable' and hence, was dubbed. But today, it's the same voice that has replaced the sound of her fans' heartbeats! Starting her Bollywood journey with 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat' though a non-starter, she not only survived but turned Queen B in such a short span time in Bollywood. With her sheer hard work, she got noticed by Bhatt Brothers, and with her second film 'Ghulam' opposite Aamir Khan with them, placed herself among top Hindi actresses. Then, in her second hit Karan Johar's directorial debut, 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' , she played a college bomb-shell with Shah Rukh to bag her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category. Later, she starred in Abbas Mustan's romantic 'Chori Chori Chupke Chupke' opposite Salman Khan . Aziz Mirza's drama 'Chalte Chalte' opposite Shahrukh Khan added... By

Is Rani Engaged to Aditya?
Are Aditya & Rani engaged? The grapevine is abuzz with rumours ever since the former has filed a petition seeking divorce from his first wife at the Bandra Family Court in northwest Mumbai.Aditya's father, movie moghul Yash Chopra, is not too happy with this alliance and therefore Aditya has moved out his family home and is now staying in a five-star hotel in suburban Mumbai. In fact, Aditya's parents have already made it known publicly that they are against their son divorcing his wife whom they adore. This might also indirectly mean that if Aditya's marries Rani, he will have to do so against his parents' wishes. It is speculated that Aditya's shift from his father's home is a prelude to his impending marriage with Bollywood star Rani, with whom he has been having an affair for a long time, according to sources.A rumour has been also doing the rounds since Sunday that Aditya had, in fact, given the actress an engagement ring a day earlier when both met secretly at the hote...

Saif-Rani Onscreen Chemistry Not so Good Of Screen
Saif and Rani Mukerji make a great pair on screen. It doesn't show in their chemistry on screen, but the story goes that although the two are always cordial with each other, the undercurrent running in their relationship is not-so-warm.Recently, for instance, while they were shooting for Kunal Kohli's film in Bangkok, Kareena Kapoor went over to join Saif for a day. Saif sent a message to Rani, suggesting that the three of them go out together. But Rani declined.Says a well-placed source from the industry, ?Saif and Rani actually share cold vibes.Their relationship went sour after both of them had a public spat during the shoot of Tara Rum Pum in New York. An argument led to a shouting match. Reportedly, Saif had even asked director Siddharth Anand to check him into a different hotel after that. Things never got fine between them after that.?Yet Saif and Rani have done a couple of ads and two more films together. How do they manage to work together? ?Both Rani and Saif are profess...

After playing the prostitute with a heart of gold, Rani Mukerji is set to do a U-turn. In Kunal Kohli's new film, she plays an angel who descends down to look after business-executive Saif Ali Khan's children.Quite a leap of fate for an actress who has always taken grave risks with her career! How does it feel to be playing an angel?'Right now I'm not allowed to talk about Kunal's film. But, yes, any opportunity to surprise yourself and the audience is welcome,' says Rani. Some of the critics have sniggered at Rani's back-to-back roles as a prostitute in Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Saawariya. Rani is unfazed.'What's the big deal? An actor's job is to play a variety of challenging roles. And I don't think anyone has the right to question any actor for his choice of parts.'I can't be happy doing just good-woman or bad-woman roles. Rani, Saif bond over Kareena
This is a friendship that is "special." Rani Mukerji and Saif Ali Khan have bonded since they were paired opposite each other in Hum Tum and Ta Ra Rum Pum. Rani was a patient listener when Saif poured out his heart to him recently. Rani and Saif had plenty of time to bond better in the weeks that they spent together in Bangkok. The two were shooting for Kunal Kohli's new untitled film where Rani plays nanny to Saif's character's kids."Since Rani did have more than one costume change in the film, there was plenty of time to talk to her co-star. Saif and she were huddled together. Their topic of conversation was Kareena," said a source close to both the actors."Saif was missing his lady love all the time as he was away from Mumbai. He could not help talking about Kareena all the time. Rani was attentive and sympathetic. She not only gave Saif a sympathetic shoulder, she even convinced Saif of what a wonderful girl Kareena is. Not that he needed conv...

Rani Mukherjee - Sexiest in the Saree
Rani Mukherjee Rani Mukherji This was at an awards ceremony a few years back where rani had won the award for Best Actress for her black performance. Have to hand it to her at public appearances no one looks as good as her always impeccably dressed. She looked stunning as always in a yellow saree here & no one could keep their hands off her. This was pre aishwarya days for abhishek , so one can see the ample amount of chemisty between the two, how she goes to abhishek for a quick hug as soon as she gets off the stage. They mightve gone their separate ways now but many people would love to seem them on screen together again. It seems unlikely though as rani has stopped signing any new movies & is rumoured to tie the knot with YRF head honcho aditya chopra.

Bollywood is really progressing now. No one can rule over the box office with only good looks. One needs extra ordinary acting and dancing skills with lots of charisma to keep with the competitors. I was disappointed to see two young actors debuting with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s mega budget movie, Saawariya. Their only claim to ...

Hrithik Roshan & Rani Mukherjee - Hollywood calling
With both OSO and Saawariya outscoring the Robert Redford-Tom Cruise political thriller, ‘Lions for Lambs’, at the international box-office, our desi actors have surely made a mark on the international scene. To add to that, the latest rumour says that Hrithik Roshan is making his Hollywood debut with none other than Penélope Cruz. The film will be extensively shot in Hollywood.Penélope’s agent, who had asked for Hrithik’s profile, was bowled over by his international look and recommended him to the Spanish actress. On the female front, after Ash, it is Rani Mukherjee now who has been offered a role in Hollywood. However, the lady says she wants to do interesting roles and the country she works hardly matters. Rani says that she is not willing to go west just for the sake of acting in a Hollywood movie.

Rani Mukherjee as Gulab in Saawariya
Rani MukherjeeGulab in SaawariyaSaawariya bombed at the BO, while it may not be a great movie (just like any other of bhansali's movies) saawariya was in no way a bad movie & for me the one thing that really stood out was rani mukherjee's potrayal of a prostitute. She is surely getting better & better at it, after all it is her 3rd attempt. While mangal pandey had rani as a prostitute back in the late 1800, laga chunari mein daag had her potraying a very modern prostitute, with Saawariya she raises the bar further. The street prostitute role was magnificently potrayed by kareena kapoor in chameli, she had got the language, dressings, mannerims just perfect, just that she didnt look like one though. Rani Mukherjee fits the character here to the T. Saawriya was promoted as a ranbir - sonam movie, but rani has a big role to play in this one , but the promos had absolutely nothing of her. They shouldve had a promo with just rani in it , in those transparent sarees mouthing those dialo...

rani mukherjee is not getting married
In an exclusive interview to BT, the vivacious but evasive actress Rani Mukerji shot down all rumours of a February 10, 2008 wedding to filmmaker Aditya Chopra at the Umaid Bhavan Palace in Jodhpur.Giving her throaty laugh, Rani said, ?How many times are they going to fix the day, venue, honeymoon, etc for me? The media might as well get the wedding cards printed and send me one. I?ll just show up for the event.?But, there cannot be smoke without fire. ?I?m not the one spreading the rumour. I wish I was rich enough to book Umaid Bhavan for my wedding. On February 10, I?m working with Kunal Kohli and Saif Ali Khan. Set another date for my wedding, please,? the actress known for comedy, begged.According to Rani, she is not getting involved or married to anybody else either to prove that Aditya and she aren?t an item in Bollywood.?I can climb on top of a water tank like Dharmendra did in Sholay and deny the rumour. But what?s the point? The media will still insist on getting me married...

Aamir & Shahrukh on screen together , a possibility ?
Its like the kamal hassan - rajnikanth story, both equally powerhouse performers down south, one started off as a hero while the other like a villan , very much as was the case of aamir & shahrukh khan. The former did work with each other in their initial days , however aamir & shahrukh have never shared screen space together. Aamir even refused to do the dance sequence in om shanti om , perhaps its the insecurities or the comparisons , but the people would really want to see them on screen together , especially with rani & kajol. Mani ratnam is almost pulling off an kamal hassan - rajnikanth starrer, will there be any production house in bollywood big enough to pull in the bollywood superstars ? '); } exo('

North Korea's nuclear test, China is the key.
So North Korea has cocked it's little finger at the West. Western nuclear diplomacy has failed. They forgot that the most difficult nation to deal with is a nation with little to lose. The world over every one has panicked. It is less the threat of immediate nuclear war. It is that the Nuclear Club is loosing it's grip over who, or who cannot have nuclear weapons. What are their options now ?
First, no one really believes that N Korea has a bomb they can deliver, or are about to deliver in the near future. The fear is that now more and more nations will feel free to explore the possiblities of joing the elitist Nuclear Club. Of course the nuclear club is something I do not understand. Why should ANYONE have nuclear weapons capablity. Who can garuntee that the ones that do have it, are likely to be more responsible about their use ? The US has bombed countries with amazing impunity SINCE the Second World War. In the name of fighting Communism first, and now in the cause of fighting Terrorism.
The fear that is very valid is that North Korea will sell it's capability and technology to the Middle East. But I am not sure what technologies North Korea has 'post the nuclear test' that it would not have already traded with countries like Iran and Syria ?
An economic blockade of N Korea is not an option. No one wants to see hardship on a people that are already barely surviving. An economic blockade on only luxury goods as the US Ambasador the the UN has suggested that only targets the elite ? Does not sound like too much of a sanction to me. No luxury goods for the next one year. Hmmmm.
Is a military strike an option ? The combined might of the US and a European force could take out Pyongyang's elite leadership, but holding an occupation force in North Korea with it's highly trained and disciplined army is going to be far more difficult than Iraq. I do not believe the US and it's allies will take that route.
And how is China going to react to a US military presence so close to it's borders ? Highly unlikely that it will tolerate it. And history has shown that the Chinese will never be part of a combined military expedition.
As with so much of what is happening in the world today, China, and it's attitude towards it's neighbour, holds the key. What do I think they will do ? They will not be part of any major economic sanctions. They will not be part of a military expedition. In fact will actively, and if necessary, miltarily oppose any western military engagement so close to their borders.
China will take course in it's own private diplomacy with North Korea, twisting the screws on Pyongang to their own political needs. After all, it is convenient to have a friendly neighbour that makes the West constantly uncomfortable,

Amitabh vs Shahrukh
The newspapers are blazing with pages full of the supposed power struggle between the two stars.
The power struggle apparently (if the papers are to be believed) is dividing the biggest political leaders, the biggest industrial icons in India.
But can any one tell me what this power struggle is about, struggle for what ? Am I stupid or is this all so silly ..Or does the Media think that the people in India are stupid enough to indulge the supposed ego's of two cine stars. I know them both. Both as normal as a lifetime of stardom can allow them to be. This feels like a total media creation to me.
But what really got me roaring with laughter were graphs created by political analysts of the relative power of the respective star. And guess what the index of power was based upon ? The value of the brands promoted by each one of them, and the cash they make out of brand endorsements. So Sachin Tendulkar's power depends not upon his performance on the cricket pitch but on how much he makes from brand endorsements ?
Its seems that 60% of celebrity brands are endorsed by Amitabh and Sharukh - and those that are left are mopped up mostly by Sachin. So are we Indian's stupid to think that Chavanprash is essential for our health merely because Amitabh Bacchan says so on TV ? Especially when we can safely assume that he has never touched the stuff ? And do we really buy a small car called the Santro because Sharukh Khan says so, knowing that he has a fleet of white BMW's standing by in his house ?
Hey wake up everyone. I personally am tired of seeing Amitabh's or Shahrukh's face peering out of every hoarding and every TV commercial. But that's their call. I just don't believe that theirs is a power struggle (that apparently involves the Gandhi family, the Ambani's and god know who else) that stems from who is the next host of kaun Banega Crorepati.
All this seems to be Star Tv's way to add to viewership to KBC ,for they are scared to death that the viewrship may fall as Amitabh has left.
Does Sonia Gandhi really care ? Do we ?

Do we ?
Shilpa Shetty in Big Brother 2
And now the Indian parliament has got in to 'Big Brother' act,....
...and our ministers have expressed outrage at the racial abuse against Shilpa. And 'against Indian womanhood' said one Minister !
Hang on, how about the treatment of women in our own country, where millions are raped, disfigured, exploited, abused and prejudiced against ? Even by our own police force !What about racism in our own society ? I remember in my college days we had some Nigerian students. At mealtimes no one would sit next to them. I know many Indian families in the West that would rather die than have their daughters or sons marry a black person.
Dont forget that 'Fair and Lovely' is by far the largest selling cosmetic in India.
Is there rascism in UK ? Of course there is. But is Big Brother the platform that we should all get up in arms over ? Of coure not. It's just a bunch of silly people acting out a silly pantomine in a silly voyeristic show, which, before Shilpa came into it, was rapidly declining in viewership.
Oh well, Shilpa should get a lot more money from Channel 4 for reviving their show,

India the next Super Power ?
Soemtimes I do not get it. India's GDP stands at US $774 Billion. US GDP is at US $12,486 Billion !. Even at a current growth rate of 9%, 3 times that of the US, it will be decades before we catch up. So what's the concept of a Super Power that we believe we soon will be ? Per Capita income in India is still amongst the lowest in the world. Perhaps we should redefine GDP to mean Gross Domestic Potential rather than Product....
It is in unlocking the creative potential of India that explosive growth rates can be achieved. I think we are achieving the current growth rates more through the the export of the service sector. In doing that we are effectively servicing the growth of other economies. I disagree with that. Export, Export Export seems to have been the Mantra of the Indian economists. It cannot be a longer term strategy. Like a country that survives on export of it's raw material till it runs out.
But in the long run we need to service our own industry, expand our domestic economy, increase standards of living within our own economy. We need to be able to withstand economic fall outs that will become more and more common in the globalized world economy. A strong home based economy, fueled by domestic demand and growth is what we need.
So what do we need to do ? We need to encourage innovation, so that the next Microsofts, or the Google's of this world are born out of India. How do we encourage an an atmosphere of Entreprenuership that is willing to invest in Research and Developement. How do we encourage Entreprenuership that needs long term investment ? Our Banking system and the new Venture Capital systems are more and more geared towards qucker returns, or 'exit strategies' as they are called.
Everyone talks about our great Demographic advantage. Soon we will have 15% of the toal population of teenagers in the world living and being Indian ! How do we unlock the creative potential that exists in this explosive area ? Prmary education is low, and of a terrible standard in most places. It is not an unsurmountable problem. By increasing the spread of broadband, we can have every Indian child interactively connected to classroom on the Web. It will ensure that kids in rural areas get the same education as the urban schools.
There are very few Management schools. Fewer still technology schools. Educational institutions that encourage youth to explore their own creative instincts are practicaly non existent in India. It has never formed a basis of our learning process. If we do not address this issue now, at best we will have a work force that services the needs of the rest of the ageing world. At worst a restless population with little education, not enough jobs to keep them occupied. This young population will bring us down rather that lift us to Super Power status.
Primary education is supreme.
On the optimistic side. Imagine 20% of the world's youth (not just teenagers) , all with basic education, Broadband conntected, all exploring and connected globally. All coming from one country and one culture ! They will be the 'tipping factor' and change the cultural and therefore the economic and political dimensions of our planet. In their own favour.
Then, we will truly be the Super Power that everyone talks about. That is our Gross Domestic Potential.

Tony Blair and the Global Cool film
The internet is rife with rumours that my next film is called Global Cool with Tony Blair and Sienna Miller in the lead. Actually 'Global Cool' is an organization that is dedicated to bringing the message of Global Warming to the youth. Hopefully we can make energy conservation, water conservation etc a fun thing to do, and a social activity. Sienna Miller, Tony Blair and I are all members of this organization....
We did a very short film with Amitabh, Tony Blair and Sienna Miller as a little stunt, and showed it at the Iafa awards in Yorkshire. To draw people's attention to Global Warming. Didn't realize that the little film would get so much attention. Even the Times of India ran a headline article with this as my next film !
So the stunt worked, I mean overworked !!
But really, while we all curse the corporate world and goverments for polluting our world, the statistics show that all of us individually can make a real real difference. Simple things like :
switching off lights, using more energy efficient light bulbs, not keeping electrical equipment on stand by
Turning off taps. My 6 yr old daughter chided me for keeping the tap running while I brushed my teeth. She learnt that at school. Thethe most water efficient way of bathing is the traditional Indian bucket bath !
Use the car only when you absolutely need to. Walk if you can, or use your bicycle, or public transport. Get your kids to use the school bus rather than being driven. Join carpools.
Don't keep the car running just to keep the airconditioning going
flying less ??
Hey I am just being simplistic, I know, but when u begin to make a list, u realize how simple it really is. All we need to be is aware. And like people on diets, we all need to be on energy and water usage diets.
You think we should all compile a list of things by which we can all be part of this movement ?

Benazir's killing and Al Quaeda
Who killed Benazir ? Suicide bombings were unheard of in Pakistan before 9/11. And before the US ordered Musharraf to send his army against his own people in Pakistan's western regions to flush out the Taliban. Why ? The supposed reason was to look for Osama Bin Laden. But that was EIGHT years ago, and Osama could be dead of natural causes by now. No one talks about him anymore in any case, and the Keyword has become Al Quaeda, about whom no one knows very much. Because Al Quaeda has now becomea 'philosophy of terrorism ' as an acceptable tool of warfare, rather than a cohesive organization anymore. It is the usual construct of the Western World looking for simple answers to vastly complex problems of cultural divide, religious divide and harsh economic disparities......
And if Al Quaeda is now a philosophy of warfare, then how is it helping that Musharaf sends his troops to fight his own people, and causing huge alienation by killing civilians and calling it collatoral damage ? The philosophy of suicide bombings is merely being exported out of the region by alienating people and encouraging them towards terrorism.
In the pursuit of protecting their own civilizations and borders the West have sent their forces into the other parts of the world and created havoc. They call it counter terrorism but have actually encouraged terrorism in it's extreme form, and thrown huge parts of the world in to chaos. And they have done so through ignorance of the basic issues involved, of the cultures involved, and of the people involved. Just as they did in Vietnam.
Benazir was killed by the rising tide of this philosophy of terrorism. And the answer to this problem lies in a much deeper analysis and understanding of the causes of it. For as it rises in the world, none of us are safe anymore.

Children being bred for sex
Like pigs bred for slaughter, minor girls in Mumbai brothels are being bred for prostitution by being injected with growth hormones and fed testosterone pills in the guise of vitamin pills. So that they develop larger breasts and hips early. Customers apparently like under age girls with slightly mature bodies. Not only that, in the event of a police raid, the brothel owners can claim the girls to be older. According to DNA a 14 year old girl complained " i hate looking at my body. My hips and chest have swelled in the last year and suddenly I have hair on my chin".
Just around the corner of course, the stock exchange is making people into billionaires everyday. And land deals are being also struck for billions of dollars in the backyard of these brothels.

Priyanka visits Rajiv Gandhi assasination accused in prison
I was really surprised and would say moved when I read the Priyanka Vadera ( nee Gandhi) went to visit Nalini in prison- one of the accused in the assasination of Rajiv Gandhi. I have never met Priyanka nor do I know what transpired except that Nalini has made statements of how much she now respects the Gandhi family. Apparently Sonia Gandhi herself had asked for clemency against the death sentence on Nalini because of her (then) five year old baby. Priyanka apparently went to get closure for herself on her father's tragic and brutal death. I guess I find this act of forgiveness and redemption not only very moving, but also that there was absolutely no attempt to make political capital of this visit from India's most political family.
Should the Dalai Lama go to the Beijing Olympics?
Yesterday the Times of India asked me to comment on the possibility of the Dalai Lama going to the Beijing Olympics and of course, journalism being what it is in India, outrageously misquoted me. I said that the Dalai Lama should go to the Olympic, because if he did, the people of China would embrace His presence and that could start a non confrontational political dialog that could give some kind of autonomy to Tibet. Of course the Times of India misquoted me as saying that his presence at the Olympics would 'embarrass' the people of China into provoking a dialog. A little bit of difference between embarrass and embrace, wouldn't you say ?
Are speculators deliberately bringing the global economy to the brink ?
The last time this happened was during the Asian Currency crisis, when all the then so called 'Tiger Economies' were destroyed by speculation in their currencies. Who were these speculators ? George Sorros was definitely one of them. Who are these people that in the name of return on investment actively go out to destroy the livelihoods of millions of people ? With the rise in food prices all over the world leading to food riots, and now the sudden rise in oil prices that will completely hamper food distribution, the world is heading to the brink of economic turmoil. Both the rise in food and oil prices have not been caused by sudden shortages. They have been caused by immense speculation and trading in commodity futures. Remember that trading in commodity futures, rather than easing price fluctuations as economic theory teaches you, actually creates artificially high prices.
Other people on our blog ?
I have long struggled with that. Not that I wish to be the only voice, but because blogging requires commitment. If I am going to invite someone else, then they should commit to us that they will be regular. For we begin to look forward to their entries, and we look forward to discussing them amongst ourselves. My web administrator was totally against it - but I have convinced him that we should include other voices on this blog. Sonya Dutta Chowdhary writes regular book reviews for many papers and magazines, runs a book reading club in Mumbai and teaches reading and writing skills to children. She has committed to writing regular reviews on books and about authors etc. under something called "Desert Island Lists". Welcome Sonya.
Amitabh Bachchan and Amir Khan Blogs.

It is wonderful to see blogging come of age in India. I have always believed that blogs are the new way that people will express themselves, and bloggers will create communities that will become more powerful and more connected than newspapers and tv channels. Soon we will have blogtv - where the combined reach of the individual communities will far exceed those of the current (rather poor) tv channels. And because blogging is an interactive and democratic process through which no one person is allowed to become so powerful that he/she becomes the 'gatekeeper' of public opinion and even news, bloggers carry the responsibility to nourish and nurture this new medium. For like freedom, it is by the people, of the people and for the people. And so, while I love that both Amir and Amitabh are attracting so much attention from bloggers, I sincerely hope that ultimately their blogs will mature into creating communities that will become focal points for community discussions. For a Blog to be sustainable, it must go beyond being about an individual personality. Both Amir and Amitabh have the 'pull power' to create large blogging communities. I sincerely hope they do.
Fate of the latest news weekly 'The Sunday Indian'

The latest weekly to have hit the stands in the country, 'The Sunday Indian' is now a couple of months old and it's time for a look at the magazine.Has it made any impression ? Or got some readers! Or should we give some more grace period. Honestly I feel it has been a disaster. The magazine has failed to pick up. Not a single story that could make us sit up and take notice. And when they tried to go for sensational stories, they were even more miserable.India Today, Outlook, Week, Tehelka and a few minor players (do we have the Sahara Time still or it has ceased publication, sorry I didn't keep track of it lately!) make it barely half-a-dozen competitors but it seems weekly market in India doesn't have enough space for a fresh publication. You can read the magazine's latest issue at http://www.thesundayindian.com/
Indian Media's Shame: Noida serial killings
Most news channels have their head offices in Noida but failed to see the trend of missing children and could not report the disappearance of children until the police arrested the culprits and the horrifying story unfolded. Why?It's the failure of Indian Media. Some correspondents had reported it earlier but the top bosses in plush offices of Delhi/Noida perhaps did not find merit in it. (probably the reporters had little access to editorial bosses so that they could convince editorial meetings that it was indeed worth prime time news). And, how could it have been newsworthy for them! Most channels have turned news into soap operas and are obsessed with Aishwarya Rais and Abhishek Bachchans. They need to do a soul-searching.The channels that had gone crazy when ONE CHILD, the son of Adobe CEO, was abducted from Noida, remained oblivious to the fact that umpteen children were missing from an area just in their backyard. Is that because the son of an MNC matters more to the media that is bedazzled with power and moneyed-people.And ironically, at last when the police managed to catch the culprits the shameless anchors had the audacity to tell viewers that it was the failure of cops to catch the culprits so late. At least the cops caught the accused, though belatedly. What the media did? What about its role of investigation and reporting. How big is Nithari village! If 40-odd children went missing from here, it was not an ordinary story. And it was not that people were not aware. Actually, the channels apparently did not find enough 'masala' (sic) for them in poor children who were disappearing. But once skeletons were unearthed and the nation was shocked at the serial killings where children were subjected to sexual abuse, the electronic news channels were woken up from their deep slumber. The media does need to question itself for its askewed vision, faulty news coverage and obsession with fashion, lifestyle, rich people and all the glitz except the life of ordinary Indians. We wonder how many such stories have never been told.Alas, Aishwarya visiting Ajmer Sharif and Pushkar makes the biggest headline in this nation. The families of children always suspected that the incidents were occurring in the particular area. But no sting operation was planned.
Media men manhandled at Amir Khan's marriage
Don't cry when you don't have guts to say 'piss off' to a celebrity who misbehaves:So once again the journalists faced the embarrassment, trying to gatecrash the party of Amir Khan. The entire media fraternity was red-faced seeing the news alerts 'Patrakar pite' or 'media se marpeet'.Who is at fault now? Of course, everyone has the right to privacy and if Khan's men behaved badly journalists too sometimes become a nuisance and they did make a fool of themselves. The mad race for TRP forces them to rush to every event. But isn't it time for channels to draw a line. The bureau chiefs must stop dashing their reporter at such odd places. Amir could have given the task of informing media to a person but he didn't and we can't complain. Even none of the television channels let alone all of them together have the guts to black out him or any celebrity who misbehaves. Because the next time a reporter gets a chance of Amir speaking to him/her, the reporter would not let it go and the channel will forget all the humiliation to journalism and journalists and telecast the story. So don't cry when you don't have the guts to say "piss off'' to a celebrity until he says sorry. You will fall at the feet of the star to get a few damn bytes and then cry that he didn' let you in. Come on, don't shed tears and make a mockery of yourself. Even sms polls indicate that overwhelming majority of Indians said that it is a star's right to guard his privacy and those who said against were mostly being courteous to you on camera. If you have the guts, don't go overboard the next time when Amir Khan's upcoming film would be ready for screening and he will be needing you help to make it hit.
Amir Khan says dog 'Shahrukh' licks his feet: Arrogance or Attention-seeking tactics?

It's okay if you name a dog 'Shahrukh' but when you write it prominently in your blog post that 'Shahrukh is sitting down licking my feet', it borders on obscene arrogance.Actor Amir Khan should have known that it is not a childish mistake. It may not be deliberate but he needn't mention this. Shahrukh Khan, the reigning superstar, is also a Bollywood actor like Amir. And Khan, who wrote this useless thing on his blog, could have simply said that the 'dog was sitting by his side and he was feeding him biscuits'. But the actor who is quite intelligent and methodical knew that this would cause a controversy. Was he seeking attention?
By any standards, it is irresponsible. He went on to justify also that he didn't name the dog. Does he think that the readers are fool and can't distinguish between what is just an innocent information or a cheap way to get publicity. The news channels have picked up the news and are screaming for the last couple of hours. The website address Aamir Khan's blog is http://www.aamirkhan.com/. We are neither die-hard fan of either of the actors nor dislike them but blogging freedom doesn't mean that everybit of trivia should be written on your blog.Whatever. It is surely in bad taste. The 765-odd comments on the blog suggest the same. Many advised the actor to write only if he has got a subject to make it into a blog post.

SRK is the Baadshah & i am ikka
AAMIR KHAN tackles his food like his roles. Meticulously, and with an eye on the details. The triangular sandwich is neatly halved and consumed in two precise bites. A small piece of the medu vada is dipped in coconut chutney and eaten without a spoon. Of course, he chews 32 times.Once his snack is over, he switches places. He wants to know everything: What my name means, how long I’ve been with The Indian Express, whether I live alone in Mumbai, how many people there are in my family, why my family shifted from Mirzapur to Chandigarh in 1984.When I tell him we relocated after the anti-Sikh riots, he makes a face, ‘‘Gosh, that’s sad. But these things make you the person you’ll become.’’ He asks me how old I was when it happened. Soon, I’m sharing the intimate memories of a five-year-old with him. I tell him how my dad went missing for 10 days and came back clean-shaven and with cropped hair. “Hello uncle” were my first words to my father. Khan grimaces, ‘‘This should be in a movie.’’ Finally, it’s my turn to ask the questions. What image comes to mind when I say Lagaan?(Closes his eyes) I think of a team. Lagaan is a representation of the underdog achieving the impossible. Is Lagaan a heavy burden to carry?I’m happy my film was received so well and made an impact that went beyond a regular movie. Did you know it’s used as a case study in management schools and companies? Is there constant pressure to do something different? It’s a double-edged sword. I like the fact that my audience has high expectations of my work. I’m happy to shoulder that responsibility. But it does get scary at times.Especially after a gap of four years.I didn’t want it or plan it that way. But I was going through a big crisis in my personal life and was unable to work for quite a while. How is your personal life now?I think I’m at peace. My kids (Junaid and Ira) are fine. What’s the status with Kiran Rao?Well, she’s a part of my life. I’m very happy with her. And I hope it stays that way. They’re predicting that Mangal Pandey: The Rising will get a record-breaking initial.Yeah, it’s the first time in my career that I’ve requested my producer and distributors to release extra prints so that all my fans get to see the film at the earliest. You must have really prepared for the role of Mangal Pandey. My director Ketan Mehta has been living the material for 20 years. I joined him three years ago. I’ve tried to read up on all kinds of material to understand what life was like during that time. It’s a big responsibility to play the role of Mangal Pandey because he’s a figure in the minds of Indians. I want my audience to take back something they are proud of.Tell me something I don’t know about him.Did you know that for the British, Mangal Pandey became a symbol of Indian rebellion. They used to call anyone who rebelled, Pandey.Quick, what is the best and worst thing about being Aamir Khan?I value the love and respect of my audience. The most difficult thing to deal with is the unceasing pressure from all directions. People constantly want something from me. Someone wants me to do a film, sign an autograph, be a chief guest, attend a charity dinner or write a column. The general impression is that you’re an island in Bollywood.I function the way I do and value my privacy. I’m very protective about the time that I keep aside for my personal life. But do you have friends in the industry?Of course I do. What are you implying? How many of them are on your speed dial?I don’t use speed dial. I remember keying it in but I end up dialling the number. (Checks his phone). Okay, maybe you have a point. I don’t have anyone from the industry, it’s mostly family members and close friends.Maybe that’s why you’re on a making-up spree these days. You’ve made up with Salman Khan and Yash Chopra. Not at all. Making up would apply if I was not on good terms with them. Salman has been a colleague for 15 years and we have mutual respect and regard for each other. That’s never changed for me. As for Yashji, I’ve always had immense respect for him. If we had any disagreements, that’s between him and me. It’s something we’ve dealt with in the past. It’s not an issue now.Who’s the No 1 Khan—you or Shah Rukh Khan?I was in Pakistan when someone said that SRK is the badshah of Bollywood. So, I said yeah, he is the badshah but I’m the ikka. Are you?Why not? Hey, I’m saying this as a joke. I mean it, but it’s a joke. How do you explain the national interest in your signing price?I have no idea. Money is not a top priority for me, other things are more precious. I charge what I feel is appropriate for the film. I have no idea if it’s the lowest or the highest.Do you really interfere with all your directors?I’ve learnt to ignore this question. When will you turn director?I’m not ready. But hopefully, one day soon.Which was the last film you wanted to be a part of as an actor?I would’ve loved any role in Maqbool. You look toned, has the fitness bug bitten you too?I’m basically a lazy person. If the role requires a particular look then I’ll workout to achieve that. Since Mangal Pandey was a soldier, I wanted a raw and earthy physique. I hope I’m able to maintain it.The general impression is that you’re an island in Bollywood.I function the way I do and value my privacy. I’m very protective about the time that I keep aside for my personal life. But do you have friends in the industry?Of course I do. I hope I’m able to maintain it.
Pal, pal, dil ke paas
Farah KhanBuddy bunch Shah Rukh Khan, Gauri Khan, Karan Johar and my childhood friends who live in the same building Rajesh Sathe and his sister Rachna.Buddy bond I meet SRK regularly because I work with him. But otherwise, we meet four to five times a month. We play board games like Trivial Pursuit or just sit and chat. SRK has been wanting me to work out with him which I’ve never done till now. We all enjoy films. When we are on outdoor locations, we sit in one room and watch DVDs. We talk mostly about work.Nowadays we also talk about spiritualism, marriage and children but earlier, we mostly talked about what’s happening in the industry, childhood experiences, family experiences. SRK is a good talker but he’s also a good listener. He remembers small things. We have these jokes — like Karan always uses phrases like “we of the fraternity” meaning the film industry and I say it’s hardly a fraternity since everyone is trying to kill everyone else. With Gauri, it’s mostly girl talk. I don’t get to do that with the boys when I am shooting.Buddy buys Shahrukh has given me a car. I buy him smaller gifts like a game or a DVD. Karan Johar too has given me very expensive things. I can’t reciprocate in the same way. I feel they have everything that money can buy and they have such good taste, so I don’t buy them stuff. I show my friendship in other ways like doing their songs without question.Buddy backing If I ever have any problem, I know I can just call or land up at Shah Rukh’s house and my problem will be solved in 5 minutes. I just have to confide in Shah Rukh. He gives me a different perspective on things and I instantly feel good.We don’t speak much on the phone. I’ve been on innumerable holidays with SRK, Gauri and the kids. I stay in their houses in London and Delhi. In fact they have a room for me there. I am also very close to Gauri’s family in Delhi.
'HUMKO TUMSE PYAAR HAI’ was an ambitious project when launched in 2002. Starring three ‘A’ list stars then — Bobby Deol, Amisha Patel and Arjun Rampal — the film, directed by Bunty Soorma and produced by Karim Morani, Bunty Soorma and Aly Morani, embarked on its first schedule in January 2002.But catastrophe struck in March 2002, when Bunty Soorma passed away in his sleep in a Jaisalmer hotel, while the second schedule was in progress. Suddenly, everything seemed uncertain. Months later, Vikram Bhatt stepped in Bunty’s shoes to complete the remaining portions of the film. But the project, which was initially supposed to hit the screens towards the end of 2002, will now release exactly after three years — in Diwali this year
What prompted SRK to step in? “He kept track of the film all the while, he used to enquire about its progress. He even viewed portions of the film and has been supportive all through, though he has no stake in the film,” Aly reveals. There’s talk that SRK has spoken to some distributors, so that Bunty’s unfinished dream finally comes true. “He has been guiding us without any ulterior motive. What more could we ask for?” Aly states humbly.

Farhan Akhtar is busy finalizing the starcast of his Don remake. And the latest addition to the cast of the film is Isha Koppikar. However Isha gives a whole new spin to the Don remake. While all other actors in the cast of Don play some character from the original (SRK – Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra– Zeenat Aman, Arjun Rampal – Pran, Kareena Kapoor – Helen), Isha’s character is not derived from the original film. Her character is an addition to the cast of this remake. Seems like the Don remake is not blatantly derived from the original but has some additions and alterations in its script. Javed Akhtar who scripted the original is re-working on the screenplay of the remake as well.

Kajol to play role Shah Rukh's wife

Bollywood's hottest on-screen couple is back after seven years. Kajol has finally agreed to do Karan Johar's next titled My Name Is Khan and plays Shah Rukh Khan's wife in the film about an Indian couple living in the US.
The two were last seen as couple in Karan's 2001 family saga Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.
When the media reported the news of her being considered for the role in My Name Is Khan early last month, the actress had retorted by saying that without reading the script she would not give consent to work in a movie.
According to a source close to the production house, soon after that she went on a holiday with her family and there was a lull on the My Name Is Khan front. It has now been learnt that she has given the green signal to the movie.
Though the movie is scheduled to be launched in December, a buzz has already started about the composer trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who have scored some "outstanding" tunes for the movie.
Those who have heard some of the tunes composed with dummy lyrics say that one of the highlights of My Name Is Khan will certainly be its music.
The launch of of the film has been deferred till December because at present Karan is busy with Dharma Productions' other movies, including the Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham starrer Dostana. The film is due for release later this year.
Karan is also planning to launch his erstwhile assistant Ayaan as a full-fledged director. Incidentally, Ayaan is Kajol's first cousin.

LOS ANGELES : Dancer and actress Cyd Charisse, whose legs were insured for a million dollars in the heyday of the Hollywood musical, died at her home in Los Angeles on Tuesday, her agent said. She was 87.Scott Stander said Charisse, a regular partner of legends Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, suffered a heart attack at her home and “never recovered.”Charisse rose to fame as the big studio musical was fading from view, playing the vamp who entices Kelly in “Singin in the Rain.” A brief role without a word of dialogue, Charisse made an unforgettable entrance by dangling Kellys straw hat on the toe of her high heel as he — and the camera — admired her fully-extended leg.She got to play Kellys leading lady in Vincente Minnellis “Brigadoon” and partnered with Fred Astaire in “The Band Wagon” and “Silk Stockings” before the studios pulled the plug on big budget musicals. Charisse went to France to produce her last musical — “Les Collants Noirs” — before moving on to a series of less satisfying dramatic roles. “Screaming and yelling wasnt really my style,” she said in a 2004 interview.Astaire, who called her “beautiful dynamite,” said somewhat enigmatically, “When you dance with Cyd Charisse, youve been danced with.”Born Tula Ellice Finklea in 1921, Charisse began dancing at six when her doctor recommended exercise to recover from polio. She got the nickname “Sid” from a younger brother who couldnt pronounce “sister” and later changed it to the more exotic Cyd at the suggestion of her agent.Charisse left her home in Amarillo, Texas as a young girl for the better dance studios in Los Angeles and was hired at 14 by the legendary Ballet Russe.Charisse toured Europe, changing her name several times to better fit into the program, until the troupe disbanded when the war broke out in 1939.She married her old dance teacher, Nico Charisse, in Paris and then returned to Los Angeles where the couple had one child, Nico Jr. Charisse got her first movie role in 1942: a bit part as Lily Norwood in “Something to Shout About” which she once said “wasnt anything to shout about.” She did not settle on her stage name until MGM studio signed her to a seven-year contract in 1945.She soon divorced Charisse and had a brief romance with fellow Texan Howard Hughes, who sent limousines to help her get around after she broke her leg in a staircase routine for the film “On an Island With You.”After her stunning dance with Fred Astaire in “Ziegfeld Follies,” Charisse played a number of dancer roles in lesser films while the studio sent her to acting lessons. She turned down an offer to star opposite Gene Kelly in “An American in Paris” because she wanted to start a family with her new husband, crooner Tony Martin. Their marriage would last more than 60 years. While her sexy but silent role in “Singin in the Rain” solidified her status as a pin-up queen, Charisse became a full-blown star in 1953 with her first lead role opposite Astaire in Minnellis “Band Wagon.”She also famously played Dean Martins new wife in Marylin Monroes last — and unfinished — 1962 film “Somethings Got to Give.” Charisse continued to make films into the 1970s and developed a successful nightclub act with her husband. She made her Broadway debut at 70 in the musical “Grand Hotel”, reprising Greta Garbos role, and continued to play small roles on television.
